Music Video First Draft Feedback plus analysis
At the very beginning when jack is walking through the arch and his shadow can be seen, the next shot shows jack not walking in the sun therefore there was no shadow created. This didn’t fit and we either needed to get rid of that shot altogether or re-shoot it so there was a shadow in the previous shot.
Most of the shots when Jack’s conscience is walking were too slow therefore those shots had to be re-shot with less of a space between the two subjects.
We also found that we did not have a good variety of shots for the band performance, we didn’t have any good close ups of the band nor of the instruments therefore we knew we would have to re-shoot the band performance.
Also the death of ‘Jenny’ people thought was to plain as there was no blood and was as if she was just sleeping therefore needs re-shooting.
People also expressed that they found the whole flashback/black and white shots confusing and did not understand why they were in black and white and what was going on at this particular part of the video.
People also got confused at how Jack was walking up the stairs however the next shot was seen in an underground subway; once again we need to make the storyline clearer.
The Millennium bridge shot was too shaky and the bridge was very busy therefore took the focus off the characters.
The mirror shot we thought would be good however the mirror seemed to be too dirty and also we used an effect to show the flashback finish and reality begins however that certain effect made the video look tacky.
Comments included such other things like the very end clip you could see jack smiling as he pulled down his hood, which people thought would be more effective if he wasn’t smiling.
However not all of our comments were bad, our teacher and classmates also wrote what they liked and would like to see kept in our video, these things included the writing on the wall of the subway, the walking when in time with the music and drum beat. Also the locations we used were good as well as the lip syncing.
Filming Diary Entries
First band performance –
Today was the first band performance which we carried out within the drama studio. The group members which were involved include: Emily Thompson, Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall and John Lovatt.
We spent approximately two hours within the drama studio after school from 6pm till around 8pm. The time which we spent in the drama studio wasn’t long enough to get all of the shots which we require in order to create a quality music video, so this meant that we couldn’t get a wide variety of shots. As we didn’t carry out a wide variety of shots, we need to carry out another band performance within the drama studio at a different time so that we can cover every aspect of the band performance within the music video. When we carry out the second band performance, we need to ensure that all the band members are all lively and excited to play so that the music video has a really good effect to it.
Town shots –
Today was the first narrative filming scene which we carried out, and it involved being within Newcastle. The locations which we shot in and on include the Millennium Bridge, a pedestrian subway located underground, variety of different streets and a variety of different staircases dotted around the Newcastle area and specifically the Keyside.
The group members which were involved include: Emily Thompson, Jack Tweddell, and Guy Blackhall. We spent approximately 5 hours shooting within Newcastle from 11am till around 4pm.
As Jack is the main character within the music video, this meant that nearly all of the camera shots focused around Jack, Guy is the mysterious conscience of the main character so he was in the background of nearly all of the shots, and Emily was in control of the camera so she did all the filming within Newcastle. All the members help directing the shots and setting up the shots within Newcastle.
The problems which occurred when in Newcastle were that when we were filming on the Millennium Bridge, the wind was very powerful so it was rather difficult to keep the video camera still when it was placed on top of a very unstable tripod. Another problem which occurred when we carried out the filming on the Millennium Bridge was that, the bridge itself was extremely busy even though the weather wasn’t the best. This meant that we found it very hard to find a time gap because pedestrians kept on walking in front of the camera which made it very distracting and difficult. If the pedestrians who walked in front of the camera didn’t take any notice of the camera then it may have looked realistic and normal, but as they kept looking and pointing at the camera then the footage was no longer usable. A problem which occurred when we were filming within the pedestrian subway located underground was that the subway itself was rather busy with pedestrians walking through it which made it very difficult to find a time gap. This meant that it was very time consuming in order to find a suitable time gap so that we could carry out the filming; this delayed the filming within Newcastle. Another problem which occurred when we were filming within the pedestrian subway located underground, was that there was a skateboard located discreetly in the bottom right corner of one of the shots. We didn’t realise this until we got back and attempted to include the shot within the first draft of the music video. As we didn’t realise the skateboard was in the shot until we got back, this means that we will have to carry out a second shooting within Newcastle at a later time.
As there were quite a few problems which occurred when we shot the first shooting within Newcastle, this means that we will have to carry out a second shooting so that we can get all of the exciting shots which we require within the music video.
Beach shots –
Today was the second narrative scene which we carried out and it involved being next to the seafront. The locations which we shot in and on include the promenade and the beach.
The group members which were involved include: Emily Thompson, Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall, and John Lovatt. We spent approximately 2 and a half hours shooting within seafront from 3pm till around 5.30pm.
As Jack is the main character within the music video, this meant that every shot which took place at the seafront focused on Jack and no one else. Guy, Emily and John all did the directing and filming which helped a lot as they could all combine their ideas together in order to get very successful exciting shots.
A Problem which occurred when we were filming within the seafront was that; the weather was extremely windy which made it very difficult to keep the video camera still when it was placed on a very unstable tripod. This meant that it was very time consuming as the camera kept on jittering because of the wind. Another problem which occurred when we were filming at the seafront was that it got rather dark later on when we were there, so this meant that the footage was quite rushed as we were pushed for time because of the light. As the weather was extremely windy and it got quite dark near the end of the filming, this meant that the footage which we carried out wasn’t to our best potential. Another problem which occurred was that we had two cameras but only one tripod so this meant that some of the footage on the camera which wasn’t placed on the tripod was quite jittery; this meant that the footage wasn’t to the best quality. As the footage wasn’t to a high standard, this means that we are going to carry out another filming scene at the seafront at a later stage so that we can re-do the footage and improve it to our best potential.
Forest shots –
Today we carried out another narrative filming scene which consisted of being within the ‘Redder’; the ‘Redder’ is a forest located between Shiremoor and Wellfield.
The group members which were involved include: Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall, and John Lovatt. We spent approximately 2 and a half hours shooting within the forest from 2.30pm till around 5pm.
As Jack is the main character within the music video, this meant that the shots which we carried out consisted of Jack running in the foreground and Guy (who is the mysterious conscience of Jack) following Jack in the background. We carried out shots from various angles which gave the footage a specious and sense of direction to it. We brought two cameras to the forest so John was in control of one of the cameras and when Guy wasn’t in the footage he would be in control of the other camera. John was the main director of the footage which we carried out within the forest but Jack and Guy also helped in that area.
A problem which occurred when we were carrying out the footage within the forest was that; we had two cameras but only one tripod which meant that one of the cameras footage wasn’t to the best quality because it was hand held. This meant that the majority of the footage which was done using the hand held camera was mostly unusable because the footage was too jittery to use. Another problem which occurred was that the forest which we used is rather popular for dog walkers and unfortunately when we were carrying out filming; a dog ran in front of the camera. Even though this was rather funny at the time, the footage was unusable and it was rather time consuming because we had to spend more time filming. As Emily was unable to be present when we were filming within the forest, this meant that Guy had to be in control of one of the cameras when he wasn’t used in the footage. This meant that we had limited shots with Guy following Jack through and within the forest.
Pier and Cliffside shots -
Today we carried out another narrative scene to be used within the music video, and it involved filming next to a cliff side. The locations which we filmed on included Cullercoats pier, and the Cliffside which is located next to Cullercoats pier.
The group members which were involved included: Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall, and John Lovatt. We spent approximately three hours filming on the Cliffside from 5pm till approximately 8pm.
As jack is the main within the music video, this meant that the shots which we carried out consisted of jack running in the foreground and Guy (who is the mysterious conscience of Jack) following Jack in the background. We experimented with different angles which gave the footage a really different but effective feel to it. We took one camera to the scene and John was in control of the camera. John was directed the footage which we carried out. Even though John was the director of the footage which we carried out, Jack and Guy gave their ideas to John so that we combined everyone’s ideas together so that we had a mixture of ideas.
A problem which occurred when we were undergoing the footage was that everyone who was involved in the filming was busy during the day which is why we didn’t start filming till 5pm. As we didn’t start filming till 5pm, this meant that it got rather dark early into the filming so we were rather limited on how much filming we could do. Another problem which occurred was that we carried out some panning shots which appeared to look really good on the video camera, but when we copied the footage onto the Jacks laptop the footage didn’t appear to be to a high quality. The panning shots were really jittery and weren’t to a high quality which was bit of a shame because we didn’t realise until we copied the footage onto Jacks laptop. As the footage wasn’t to a high quality and we were limited with sunlight, we are going to carry out another filming scene at the Cliffside so that we can re-do the footage to our best ability.
Black track shots –
Today we carried out a narrative filming scene which consisted of being along a black track which is a black paving track which leads from Wellfied to the Re House Farm estate.
The group members which were involved include: Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall, and John Lovatt. We spent approximately 20 minutes filming along the black track from 4pm till around 4.20pm.
The filming which we carried out today consisted of Jack running past the camera then Guy (who is Jacks mysterious conscience) walking past the camera following Jack from a distance. We tried this specific shot with various angles including adjusting the tripod legs so that the camera is on a tilted angle. As Jack and Guy were both involved within the filming, this meant that John was in control of the camera and directing the footage. Both Jack and Guy contributed with ideas to John which allowed us to combine all of our ideas together so that we could get the best from the filming which we carried out.
A problem which occurred when we were filming along the black track was that; the track itself is a rather busy track for dog walkers and pedestrians wanting to get from the Wellfield estate to the Red House Farm estate. This meant that it was quite difficult to find a suitable time gap so that we could film; this was because we kept on being interrupted by pedestrians and dog walkers.
Emily dying scene -
The group members who were involved during the shooting of the Emily dying scene shots included: Emily Thompson, Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall, and John Lovatt. We spent approximately forty five minutes during our Media lesson and we went to the back of the school hall so that we could film.
The story behind Emily dying is that Emily is Jacks lady friend and something happened previously which no one knows about. So the filming which we carried out today consisted of Jack shooting Emily with the same gun which his conscience shoots himself with.
A problem which occurred today was that the location was really boring and wasn’t an exciting location. Even with the media lights, the lighting within the back of the hall was still really poor because there are no lights at the back of the school hall. Another problem which occurred was that there was no graphic close ups of Emily dying, and the shots which were used were mostly medium shots; this meant that the footage was really boring and dull.
As the filming which we carried out today was really boring and dull, this means that we are going to carry out another scene of Emily dying. For the second filming of the Emily dying scene, we are going to carry out a lot of various shots so that the footage is exciting and has a lot of mixed shots. This scene within the music video is rather important for the storyline making sense so we need Emily to over exaggerate so that the footage looks really effective and realistic.
Second shooting for second draft of music video -
Second band performance -
Today was the second band performance which we carried out within the drama studio. The group members which were involved include: Emily Thompson, Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall and John Lovatt. The roles which we carried out during the band performance include; Emily in control of camera and directing the footage, Jack as lead singer and playing keyboard, Guy as bass guitarist, and John on drums. We spent approximately five hours within the drama studio during half term from 10am till around 3pm.
The time which we spent within the drama studio was spent very well because we shot a range of exciting and effective band shots. During the footage within the drama studio, we shot an awful amount of footage which consisted of various angles such as; close ups of each band members faces, close ups of each band members shoes, high angle shots which were created by the camera being placed on top of the balcony within the drama studio, panning shots of the whole band, close ups of Jack singing and flirting with the camera, dolly shots of band which included Jack chasing the camera at one stage, and shots purely of different symbols which were on the drum kit which John was using. Also during the first band performance, all of the band members weren’t that lively which made the footage look really unsuitable and unrealistic so an improvement for the second band performance was to ensure that all the band members were all lively and excited to play. When we carried out the second band performance today, we ensured that all the band members were lively and excited to play so that the footage looked more realistic and suitable.
Pier and Cliffside second shots -
The group members who were involved during the second shooting of the pier and Cliffside shots included: Emily Thompson, Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall, and John Lovatt. We spent approximately two and a half hours filming on the pier and the Cliffside from 10am till around 12.30am.
A new location was chosen to do these shots in and they gave a much better effect. As they were taken in a different place there were no problems to improve upon and that thankfully, no problems occurred for us when doing the filming, so the filming went smoothly and as to plan.
Town shots -
The group members who were involved during the second shooting of the town shots included: Emily Thompson, Jack Tweddell, Guy Blackhall, and John Lovatt. We spent approximately two hours filming within town from 2pm till approximately 4pm. The locations which we filmed in and on included various staircases near the Keyside area, pedestrian subway tunnel located underground, and various traditional streets located near the Keyside area.
When we carried out the last filming scene John unfortunately couldn’t attend, so this meant that there were only three of the group members filming within Newcastle. But when we carried out the second shooting within Newcastle, we made sure that all group members were available. Fortunately John and everyone in the group were available so the footage which we carried out was rather effective and exciting.
As Jack is the main character within the music video, this meant that the shots which we carried out consisted highly of Jack running in the foreground and Guy (who is the mysterious conscience of Jack) following Jack in the background of the shot.
As the first shooting of the town shots there were problems such as the wind which was a factor we couldn’t change, the amount of people in town, which again was a factor we couldn’t change. These were the main problems with doing this sort of shot.
Do conquer this problem, we went to the bridge to attempt to work around this, but due to poor weather problems and again amount of people it was completely unfeasible for us to complete this task. But with the amount of shots that we took that day it wasn’t such a big problem.
The other problems with tunnel shots were that there were a lot of distraction objects in the way, so we took great time and care with moving a lot of the rubbish out of shot and making sure the shot was not cluttered or messy so that the attention of the viewer was planted directly of what was going on in the actual film and not what was around it.
In the second taking of the subway shots, these were completed successfully, and there were no problems with people walking past and mess and clutter in the screen. The shots worked perfectly and will make a good addition to the video now that there are no issues with people or mess. Also I think we spent a much greater amount of time in Newcastle taking the shots and this added to the overall quality of the video shots.
Emily dying scene (second shooting)-
The group members who were involved during the second shooting of the Emily dying scene were: Emily Thompson, Jack Tweddell, and Guy Blackhall. We spent approximately 45 minutes filming from 5pm till around 5.45pm. The location which we chose to film in was the back of the school hall which has a big black wall; this mise en scene shows the darkness of Jack killing Emily.
The story behind Emily dying is that Emily is Jacks lady friend and something happened previously which no one knows about. So the filming which we carried out today consisted of Jack shooting Emily with the same gun which his conscience shoots himself with.
Some of the problems that occurred when we were carrying out the first shots of Emily dying were that the lighting of the hall was very poor due to the lack of lights at the back of the hall, even when using the media lights. The acting of Emily dying was relatively dull and not so convincing and also there were not any close ups of her in these shots and this was a problem due to as this was a pinnacle part of the music video, a lot of emotion was needed to be caught in this scene and it wasn’t.
When we carried out the second shooting of Emily dying, we took in consideration of the problems and how to improve them. We unfortunately couldn’t change the location due to lack of time and options which meant that we had to carry out the filming in the same place. Although this looked better second time round as we used the lights more efficiently.
But we made changes to the other problems such as acting and close ups. We got Emily to practice her acting in the scene many times before we filmed it, once we thought it was good enough, we filmed it until we had it well done. This was a big improvement from last time due to the fact Emily’s acting was filled with a lot more emotion.
We decided this time to get more close up shots and we did this successfully. This added a lot more depth and showed a lot more emotion in the shots, so this would add a bigger and better feel to the video. The shooting went successfully and these shots will now be featured in the video. Now that the improvements have been made, the filming for this section has been completed.
First draft of DVD cover and DVD advert
The feedback which we recieved included: the contrast of the image was to plain and dull, small images included on the back of the DVD cover are all blurry and look out of focus, the text included on the back of the DVD cover is all blurry and all out of focus, and the logos were also blurry.

Media Theory - Andrew Goodwin and John Stewart
Andrew Goodwin:
Andrew Goodwin’s theory behind a successful music video is that the music video has to have certain key features or a majority of the features. These key features consist of:
· Demonstrate genre characteristics
· Relationship between the lyrics of the song and the visuals of the video
· Relationship between the music and the lyrics of the song
· Lots of close ups of the artist or the vocalist of the band
· There is frequent reference to the motion and action of looking
· Often intertextual references (usually to other music videos, films, and TV programs)
Coldplay – The Scientist (music video)

Lyrics for Coldplay – The Scientist
Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are.
I had to find you, tell you I need you,
Tell you I set you apart.
Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions,
Oh lets go back to the start.
Running in circles, Coming' in tails
Heads on a science apart.
Nobody said it was easy,
It's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy,
No one ever said it would be this hard.
Oh take me back to the start.
I was just guessing at numbers and figures,
Pulling the puzzles apart.
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart.
And tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start.
Running' in circles, Chasing' tails
Coming' back as we are
Nobody said it was easy,
Oh it's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy,
No one ever said it would be so hard.
I'm going' back to the start.
Ohhhh oooooo
Ahhhh oooooo
Ohhhh oooooo
Ohhhh oooooo
This music video demonstrates genre characteristics because the lyrics are very emotional just like the video is; which links in with the genre of the song, as it is quite an emotional rock band music genre.
The title of this Coldplay song is called ‘The scientist’. The lyrics of the song relate to the title of the song e.g. I was just guessing at numbers and figures, Pulling the puzzles apart. Questions of science, science and progress, Do not speak as loud as my heart. These lyrics both relate to love (emotions) and to science, as he is suggesting that life is a puzzle and that he doesn’t speak as loud as his heart. Even though the lyrics and the title of the song link in together, the lyrics and the visuals of the video also link in together. This is because the lyrics of the song are extremely emotional just like the actually visuals of the music video. The lyrics of the song are quite difficult understand, all you really know is that he missing his love of his life, and that he wants to go back to the start; when he was happy. The video shows that there was an accident where his love of his life dies, and throughout the video he travels back to the start; before the accident when he was happy. So from listening to the lyrics and watching the music video, you understand exactly what is happening and what did happen. This shows that there is a massive relationship between both the lyrics of the song and the visuals of the music video.
When you listen to the music of the song and the lyrics of the song, you understand that there is a very emotional relationship between the two of them. At the start of the song the lyrics are telling a story, which links in with the music as the music is quite quiet; it doesn’t overpower the lyrics. But near the end of the song the music gets more powerful when Chris Martin goes back to the start. The lyrics start to make more sense e.g. the visuals show before the accident when Chris was happy, and that is when the music is more powerful because the main character is more powerful and happy; not heartbroken. This contrast between the lyrics of the song and music of the song show that there is also a massive relationship between the two of them.
The visuals of the music video show that the whole video itself, focuses on the main character; Chris Martin. Throughout the video there are many close ups, long shots and tracking shots of the main character who is also the vocalist of the band; Coldplay. This shows and reminds the target audience of the video who the band is; because Chris Martin is a huge musical icon throughout the world, so everyone knows who he is and what band he is from. If one of the other band members solely featured in the video then not as many people would know which band is performing the song, but if the video focuses on Chris Martin then everyone knows who the band performing is because he is a global musical icon.
Throughout the music video there is many different types of camera angles and movements used in order to represent the video and to show the main character telling his story. The main character throughout the video is travelling backwards in order to get to the start; when his life was happy. This adds clever and interesting detail to the video which gives the video its own unique touches.
Throughout this music video there aren’t any intertextual references such as other music videos, TV programs or films. This is rather unusually as most music videos involve intertextual references, but in this case; this music video doesn’t need any intertextual references due to the video having its own unique feel to it. This is because even though the video doesn’t involve any intertextual references, it is still very successful because it is such a clever and creative video because of the ideas used.
John Stewart:
John Stewart as a person was incredibly interested in the concept of intertextuality within various music videos. Stewart’s theory behind a successful music video was that he believed that the majority of visual references come from three areas which consist of: fashion, cinema, and art.
· Examples of fashion included in music videos include: Robert Palmer – Addicted to love
· Examples of Cinema included in music videos include: Will Smith – Men in Black (Men in black), Chase & Status featuring Plan B – End Credit (Harry Brown), Aerosmith – Don’t wana miss a thing (Armageddon), Celine Dion – My heart will go on (Titanic), Bryan Adams – Everything I do (Robin Hood), Elton John – Can you feel the love tonight (Lion King), Faith Hill – There you’ll be (Pearl Harbour), Paramore – Decode (Twilight), Madonna – beautiful stranger (Austin Powers), Whitney Houston – I will always love you (Bodyguard), and Whitley Houston – I have nothing (Bodyguard).
· Examples of Art photography included in music videos include: George Michael – Freedom
Paramore – Decode (Twilight)
Lyrics for Paramore - Decode
How can I decide what's right?
When you're clouding up my mind
Can't win your losing fight all the time
Not gonna ever own what's mine
When you're always taking sides
You wont take away my pride
No not this time
Not this time How did we get here?
I use to know you so well How did we get here? Well, I think I know
The truth is hiding in your eyes
And its hanging on your tongue
Just boiling in my blood,
But you think that I can't see
What kind of man that you are
If you're a man at all
Well, I will figure this one out on my own
(I'm screaming "I love you so..." But my thoughts you can't decode)
How did we get here?
I use to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know
Do you see what we've done?
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves
Do you see what we've done?
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves
How did we get here?
I use to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I use to know you so well
I think I know
I think I know
There is something that I see in you
It might kill me I want it to be true
Out of the three key concepts of intertextuality within music videos, Cinema is used throughout the Paramore music video for their hit track Decode. This is because the Paramore song was used in the Twilight film and has gained global recognition because of the song being used in a famous and epic film. Twilight started out as a romantic fantasy novel, but as it gained an awful amount of attention, it then got created into a brilliant film by director Catherine Hardwicke.
The music video for ‘decode’ by Paramore, includes a lot of footage from the film Twilight, but at the same time a lot of performance. The footage from the film is instantly recognisable because Twilight is a globally recognised film and the film won both the Scream: Best fantasy film, and MTV: Best movie award plus nineteen other awards from such award ceremonies such as: Bravo’s A list awards, MTV movie awards, Young artist awards, Teen choice awards, and Scream awards. This information shows that Twilight was an instant global success grabbing awards at each award ceremonies the film was entered in. Throughout the film there is a massive amount of band performance which is a very different to other music videos which involve film footage; this is because music videos which involve film footage mostly focus on the film rather than band performance. So this already shows that the music video for Paramore – Decode is incredibly unique.
The music video itself involves a high amount of band performance which is extremely different to current music videos which involve footage from existing films. This is because music videos such as Elton John – Can you feel the love tonight (Lion King) has near no performance and involves mostly footage from the film, and Chase & Status featuring Plan B – End Credits (Harry Brown) which has a fair amount of singing involved but includes a majority of film footage and on scene footage.
The Paramore music video for their hit track ‘Decode’ includes a healthy amount of band performance which is why the video itself is so effective and unique. The band performance which is included within the Paramore music video consists of various angles and shots ranging from: close ups of lead guitarist, panning shots of lead guitarist, panning shots of the drummer, close up of lead singer, hand held shots running through forest which is located in the film Twilight, zoom out shots of band members, high angle shots of lead singer, dolly shots of band members, straight cut shot of Paramore band, low angle shot of lead guitarist, dolly shot of drummer, dolly shots of lead singer, Close up of lead singer strolling her hand through the forest which parts of the film Twilight is filmed in, close ups of drummer hitting symbols, close up of lead singer appearing to be travelling backwards, high angle shot of band members, close ups of lead singer appearing to be travelling forwards, tilted angle shot of lead singer, over the shoulder shot of lead singer singing with drummer in background, low angle shots of Paramore band, and high angle shots of Paramore band.
The effective and creative band performance is combined with extremely good shots of the footage which is taken within the film Twilight. The footage which is taken and imported within the Paramore music video is well executed filming and goes with the footage within the Paramore music video. This is because the scenes included within the footage go with the correct scenes within the music video e.g. close ups of the lead singer of Paramore when she sings the verse: ‘I use to know you so well’; this verse is an extremely important verse during the whole song, and during the music video the lead singer really goes for it when she sings that specific verse.
This analysis of this Paramore song shows that John Stewart’s theory is correct in that the majority of visual references come from a certain area which includes Cinema. This is because the Paramore music video involves a high amount of footage from Twilight, which is why the song is featured within the film, Twilight. This shows that specific music videos are made up of a certain visual reference e.g. fashion, cinema, and art photography.
Analysis of Similar Videos and Artists
After viewing the Killers music video for their hit track ‘Bones’, I personally think that the video itself is incredibly creative and stands out really well. The idea of the characters in the video turning into skeletons is an extremely crazy idea but it seems to pull itself of, because the lyrics suit the video which makes the video look really good.
The video switches from performance base to narrative base which gives a good mixture of the two as it keeps on switching between them; you don’t get bored watching the music video. Straight away you know that it is going to be a rock song due to the fact that the start is narrative which then shows a wide angle shot of the band; The Killers.
The structure of the music video in my opinion; is incredibly good as there is an equal balance of both narrative and performance. The band in the music video is performing in front of massive visual screen which is of the actual narrative in the video. So throughout the video there is always narrative because even when the band is performing the narrative is behind them on a massive screen; this makes the music video rather unique and very effective.
Straight from the start of the music video there is many great shots used e.g. the mid two shot of the couple sitting in their car; this establishes what location they are in and what the location of the music video is going to start of from. Great shots within a music video are very important for the video to be a success; so this point proves that this music video is a success e.g. there is a shot of the bass guitarist playing which is usually an average band performance shot but in this shot the bass guitarist is a skeleton with clothes on. This little bit of extra detail gives a huge effect to the video and makes it unique in so many different ways.
In my opinion I think that the success of this video comes from the fact that it is so unique. Not only the video includes humans who then turn into skeletons according to the lyrics of the song, the band is performing in front of a massive screen which has the narrative from the video on it. I don’t think this type of video has been produced before so I personally think that the video it is very unique. In my opinion, the special effects used in the music video are to a very high standard which is also part of the reason to why I think this video is so successful. This is because if the video was very boring and didn’t have any uniqueness to it then it wouldn’t be a success, but as it has extremely good special effects and unique ideas about the narrative and performance then it is definitely a success.
Most rock band music videos involve mostly band performance shots and a little bit of narrative which is the usually potion for a rock band music video. But this music video has an equal balance between both narrative and performance base which makes this music video different to other rock band music videos but in a very good effective way.
The target audience for this music video is probably old teens to people in their twenty’s, who like to listen to rock music and in particular bands such as The Killers and Coldplay. They are targeted by the uniqueness of the video as it is so creative just like The Killers; as there aren’t many bands like them. The video is creative because of the ideas used e.g. humans turning into skeletons according to the lyrics, and the band performing in front a massive screen with the narrative on it. These ideas are very creative which is how the target audience is targeted.
The Killers - Somebody told me
After viewing the Killers music video for one of their most well known track; ‘Somebody told me’, I personally think that the video itself is very plain but at the same time quite creative because of the location which the band is located in.
The structure of the video consists completely of band performance, due to the fact that the band is playing in front of a big in the middle of no where. The screen used in the background behind the band shows close ups and various other shots of the band members including wide angle shots. The screen also shows images of the odd girl dancing in front of the screen with bright pink colours lit up behind her, and the logo for the Killers lit up on the screen. As there is no narrative or concept base used in the video, I personally think that the video itself is rather boring as there is no uniqueness about it.
During the video there are many great camera shots and angles used which makes the video stand out a little bit more than it already does; this is because the video is purely of band performance which makes the video quite boring. Using various band shots and angles breaks up the video a little bit which makes it not as boring.
I personally don’t think that the music video for ‘Somebody told me’ is successful due to the fact that I find it quite boring and dull; this is because it consists purely of band performance and involves no narrative or concept base. If the video was a little bit more creative and didn’t just involve performance then it would be successful because the band performance in this video is rather good but gets boring after a couple of minutes.
Most rock band music videos involve mostly band performance shots and a little bit of narrative which is the usually the correct potion for a rock band music video in order for the video to be successful. But this isn’t the case in this music video as it consists completely of band performance shots and no narrative or concept base is involved at all.
In my opinion the target audience for this music video is old teens to people in their late twenty’s or early thirty’s, people who like to listen to rock music and in particular bands such as The Killers, Razorlight, and Coldplay. People in this age group are usually targeted by the uniqueness of the video and the creativity of the video and the band itself e.g. the Killers. But in this case the Killers have opted for targeting their target audience by consisting the music video entirely of band performance and band shots on a large screen behind the actual band. Even though the idea of purely band performance is quite boring, it is also quite creative with the fact that there is a big screen behind the band. No other bands involve big screens placed behind the band in there music videos which again suggests that the Killers are a unique band.
The Killers - When you were young
After viewing the Killers music video for one of their most successful track; ‘When you were young’, I personally think that the video itself is incredibly creative and very touching; as in the storyline. The majority of the Killers music videos consist highly of band performance in front of a big colourful screen which is the complete opposite to this video. The idea of the very touching and sad storyline linking in with the words of the song works really well, and the narrative of the video is very unique on its own which is one of the reasons why this video is so successful and unique.
The video itself consists highly of narrative but does involve band performance, which at the end of the video is included in the narrative as the main woman in the video walks past the band. The killers are well known for including mostly band performance in their music videos but in this specific music video they include mostly narrative. The narrative in the video links in really well with the lyrics of the song which gets the audience more involved, and doesn’t allow the audience to get bored with the video. During the video there are short shots of the band performing which is a really good insert into the video as it breaks up the narrative a little bit and keeps the audience involved in the video.
Throughout the music video there are many great shots used e.g. near the start when there is a close up tracking shot of the main man in the video driving his car, then he suddenly sees the woman which grabs his attention; so there’s a really serious frightened facial expression from him. Great shots within a music video are extremely important for the video to be a success; so this point proves that this music video is a huge success e.g. there is a great wide angle shot which has the entire band performing in, in a bar. This shot establishes which people are part of the band and which location they are playing in.
In my opinion I think that the success of this specific Killers music video comes from the fact that they haven’t produced a video like this before so it makes the video rather unique. Not only the video includes a very unique and touching narrative, it also includes great band shots which break up the narrative brilliantly. The killers have never produced a video like this before so that it why I personally think that the video is so unique and successful. The narrative in the music video is to a very high standard which is also part of the reason why I personally think this video is so successful. Part of the reason is because if the video was just performance or even narrative then it would be quite boring, but as the Killers bring in a bit of performance base then that breaks up the narrative extremely well.
The majority of rock band music videos involve mostly band performance shots and a little section of narrative which is usually the average rock band music video. But in this specific music video they is mostly narrative and a little bit of performance base which balances out the video really well. This is also the reason why the video is so successful and unique because not many rock Band music videos involve mostly performance base. The majority of narrative makes the video a lot different to other rock band music videos but in a very good and effective way.
The target audience for this music video in my opinion is old teens to people in their late twenty’s an early thirty’s, who like to listen to rock band music an particular bands such as the Killers, Coldplay and Razorlight. The target audience is targeted by the uniqueness of the video because the majority of narrative and a little bit of band performance makes the video very creative, and unique in its own way. The video is very creative just like the Killers are which is another reason why the video and the song itself are so successful.
The Killers - The world we live in
After viewing the Killers music video for one of their lesser known hit track ‘The world we live in’, I personally think that the video itself is very creative due to the narrative and the various unusual camera shots used. The idea of the calm beautiful location links in really well with the lyrics and the actual music of the song, which creates a really good effect.
The video involves both performance and narrative but focuses mainly on narrative. This extra bit of detail gives the video a good balance between the two and makes the video stand out really well; as The Killers are well known for more performance shots than narrative. If the video consisted purely of either narrative or performance then the video would be rather boring to watch. But as it involves both, the video is really effective and doesn’t exactly get boring. Straight away at the start of the video, you have a feeling that the song is going to be a rock song. This is due to a low angle establishing shot of the band members walking along a bridge, then standing looking over at a view at the beginning of the video.
The structure of the music video in my opinion; is incredibly creative as it involves mostly narrative rather than performance; which is completely the opposite of a stereotypical rock band music video. From The Killers music videos which I have seen, they consist of performance which involves all of the band members playing the instruments which they play in the band. But in this music video the only type of performance is Brandon Flowers singing the lyrics of song in various locations which is quiet usual for a Killers music video, but it proves to be rather effective.
Straight from the start of this music video there are many shots used e.g. the low angle establishing shot from under the bridge; which establishes where the shot is being taken from and shows the band members walking across the bridge. Great shots within a music video are very important for the video to be a success; so this point proves that this music video is a success e.g. the close up of Brandon Flowers singing through a hole in a wall; this is another great shot which is included within the music video.
In my opinion I think that the success from this music video comes from the great and unusual shots used; that is also part of the reason why I think the video is so unique. Not only the video is full of great shots, it is also full of great locations which adds a little bit of extra detail to the video and makes it a lot more effective. I don’t think this type of music video has been produced before so I personally think that this video is extremely unique in its own way. This is because if the video didn’t involve great shots and great locations then it wouldn’t be very successful and wouldn’t be as unique as it already is.
The majority of rock band music videos involve mostly band performance shots and a little bit of narrative which is a great balance for rock band music videos. But for this music video there is mostly narrative and a little bit of performance, which makes this video extremely different to other rock band music videos but in a very effective way.
In my opinion the target audience for this music video is old teens to people in their twenty’s and early thirty’s, who like to listen to rock music an in particular bands such as The Killers, Coldplay, The White Stripes. The audience is targeted by the uniqueness of the video as it is extremely creative just like The Killers; as The Killers are a unique band. The video is creative because of the ideas used e.g. great and unusual shots.
The target audience for this music video is probably old teens to people in their twenty’s, who like to listen to rock music and in particular bands such as The Killers and Coldplay. The video is creative because of the ideas used e.g. humans turning into skeletons according to the lyrics, and the band performing in front a massive screen with the narrative on it. These ideas are very creative which is how the target audience is targeted.
The White Stripes - The hardest button to button
After viewing The White Stripes music video for one of their less successful tracks; ‘The hardest button to button’, I personally think that the video itself is extremely creative and rather fun to watch. The White Stripes are a very unique band which means that they have their own unique style. The White Stripes music video usually always consist of band performance and unusual but very effective special effects, and in this music video there is purely band performance but the band members play whilst they go round various locations which gives the video a very unique effect. The band member’s move on the baseline which gives the video a very unusual effect because it hasn’t been seen before in a music video but it is a very unique and effective effect.
The video itself consists purely of band performance but when the members of the band move on the baseline, this shows a bit of narrative within the video. If the video consisted of just standard band performance then it would be rather boring to watch but as The White Stripes are a very unique band they bring that into their music videos. As the video consists of exciting band performance and not standard band performance, this means that the video is rather fun to watch and is quite exciting; isn’t boring to watch. The idea of the band moving on the baseline is the fact behind the video being very unique and effective; and that the main part behind the success of the music video.
Throughout the music video there are many great and exciting shots used e.g. the close up of the drummer in the band playing, but on each beat she moves further away which is a very creative shot which proves effective. Great shots within a music video are an extremely vital and important factor in order for the video to be a success; so this point definitely proves that this music video is a massive success e.g. there is a great wide angle shot of the guitarist and the drummer playing whilst they move on each beat down a tunnel towards a train subway.
In my opinion I think that the success of this White Stripes music video comes from the fact that it is the same style as other various White Stripes videos, but very unique compared to other rock band music videos; as this type of video hasn’t been produced before apart from existing White Stripes videos. Not only the video is very unique just like the band themselves are, the video is very creative and is full of great shots which link in with the music very well. The main part of why this music video is very successful is due to the creativity of the shots used, and the fact that on each beat the drummer and the singer move; which is why this video is so creative.
Nearly all rock band music videos consist highly of band performance shots and a little bit of narrative which is usually the average rock band music video. But in this White Stripes music video there is entirely band performance but it is also mixed with narrative at the same time which makes the video rather effective. On every beat in the song, the drummer and the guitarist move which gives the video its own uniqueness as there aren’t any other rock band music videos like this specific one. Even though this video consists entirely of band performance, it is extremely different and unique compare to other rock band videos which consist highly of band performance; as this band performance isn’t boring.
The target audience for this music video in my opinion is young teens to people in their early twenty’s, who like to listen to rock bands such as The Killers, Coldplay and The White Stripes. The target audience is targeted by the uniqueness of the video because of the idea of the band members moving on the beta of the song. The video is very creative just like the White Stripes are which another reason why the video is so successful.
Oasis - Don't look back in anger
After viewing the Oasis music video for one of their most popular and successful tracks; ‘Don’t look back in anger’, I personally think that the video itself is very effective because of the ideas used and the great shots used throughout the video e.g. The mid shot of the drummer playing the drums on a platform in the middle of a swimming pool. The majority of Oasis music videos consist highly of band performance which includes a bit of narrative; which is why Oasis music videos are so unique and successful.
The video itself consists highly of band performance with a bit of narrative which is the average combination for an Oasis music video. Oasis are well known for creating music with mostly band performance and a little bit of narrative which is why this specific music video has been produced in the same way. During the video there are many mid shots and close ups of each individual band member performing which is a really good insert into the video as it allows the audience to know exactly which band members play which instrument or who is the main singer; in this case Liam Gallagher.
Throughout the music video there are many great shots used e.g. at the start of the video when there is a panning shot of an old fashioned white chair. This specific shot adds creativity to the video which is why the video is so unique and successful just like Oasis is. Great shots within a music video are extremely important for the video to be a success; so this specific point definitely proves that this music video is a huge success e.g. there is a close up of Liam Gallagher playing the guitar with the rest of the band members sitting on a wall in the background. This shot shows the wide range of shots used within the video and also shows the creativity of the video.
In my opinion I think that the success of this specific Oasis hit music video comes from the fact that it is the same genre as existing Oasis music videos but is unique to other rock band music videos. Not only the video includes great shots, it also has a really unusual but really good location which adds to the uniqueness of the video. The narrative in the video links in with the performance shots really well is one of the main parts to why this music video is so successful and unique.
The majority of rock band music videos involve a majority of band performance shots and a little bit of narrative which is the average dose for a rock band music video. This music is the same to an average music video in what to include e.g. performance or narrative. But this Oasis music video is very unique with the shots and ideas included because they are to a very high standard. Tying in narrative shots with performance shots is unusual for a rock band music video which is another reason to why this music video is such a success.
The target audience for this music video in my opinion is young teens to people in their late thirty’s, who like to listen to rock bands such as Coldplay and Oasis. The target audience is targeted by the uniqueness of the video because of the great and unusual shits used which is why the video is so successful and unique. The video is very creative just like Oasis are which is another reason to why this video is so unique.
Animatic Storyboard
Analysis -
Some of the feedback that we received was mainly on the fact of the feasibility of the shots. For example, how were we going to get shots of a motorway or certain pier shots and carrying band equipment everywhere for a variety of shots. This was thought of to be very difficult in how it was going to be done in practice when actually creating the video. Some certain shots such as the close up of feet running were disregarded due to lots of negative feedback that we received from the animatic feedback.
List of Roles Within Group for the Filming
Guy Blackhall – Guys role in the group for filming will be aiding in the filming of the narrative shots and not band shots due to Guy being a member of the and performing in the video. It will be a similar role again to Jon’s due to Guy also being in the band, he will be aiding in helping with narrative shots and again, giving advice and ideas while filming.
Emily Thompson - Emily’s role within the group when filming will be a fairly vast role with Emily not appearing in the band in the video. When filming the band shots Emily will be able to make use of all the shots and knowledge learned about camera movement and put that forth into filming shots for the music video.Emily will also put her own input into filming by again giving advice and also try to film some great shots when filming the band shots. But also will give feedback when other members of the group may film.
Jack Tweddell – Jacks role in the group for filming will be aiding in the filming of the narrative shots and not band shots due to Guy being a member of the and performing in the video. It will be a similar role again to Jon’s and Guy’s also being in the band, he will be aiding in helping with narrative shots and again, giving advice and ideas while filming.

The Prodigy
Invaders must die
This ‘Invaders must die’ music album stands out really well because of the colour scheme used. The colour scheme which is used consists of a dirty white, black, grey and a bright orange which is bright when it is used for the title of the advert but is a bit fader when the colour is used at the bottom of the advert. The advert also has the HMV logo at the bottom of the page which adds that extra detail to the advert and makes it stand out really well; this is because the HMV is a bright pink colour which stands out really well above the dull and orange colours used on the advert. As the advert consists of a dirty white, black, grey, a bright orange colour and a bright pink HMV logo; the bright orange and the bight pink HMV logo work really well above the dull colours which is why the advert instantly attracts the eye.
The title of the band; The Prodigy, is located at the top of the advert which instantly attracts the eye. This is because the title of the band is a big font which uses all of the width and space at the top of the advert which grabs the attention straight away. The font used to create ‘The Prodigy’ logo is a very stylish but mean font and it is the bands trademark style. This is used so that people instantly know which band it is when they see the tile and the font used; the font is a house style of ‘The Prodigy’ because it is there standard font and logo. The title of the album ‘Invaders must die’, is located in the middle of the advert which is the standard location for a title to be placed. This location of the title works really well as the eye is drawn to the band name at the top of the advert, then to the bright colours and the album title in the middle of the page. The text for when the album is released is placed near the bottom of the page which is also the standard location for the release date on an advert. The text used to write the release date is a very stylish and unusual font which attracts attention on its own without needing the bright colours and the band name higher up on the advert. The bight pink HMV logo is placed discreetly in the bottom left hand side of the advert but stands out really well as the pink colour works really well above the dull colours used. This extra detail isn’t a lot but makes the advert stand out so much more and makes the advert look really effective.
The image used for the album advert for ‘The Prodigy’ is a massive ball with spikes coming out of it. This peculiar image is a trademark image for ‘The Prodigy’ which adds extra detail to the advert, and attracts the eye because of the sheer size of the image. The image is also used so that people know which band is releasing their new album, as the image is a trademark image for ‘The Prodigy’; so when people see the image they know which band the advert is for.
The target audience for this album would be people in an age group ranging from sixteen year olds to people in their early forty’s. The age group is such a side range because ‘The Prodigy’ have been around for so many years and they have a huge amount of fans due to the band producing great tracks. The target audience would also include people who listen to Drum and Bass, and both male or female. The target audience is targeted through the creativity of the album advert as the advert is rather different top other drum and bass bands, so this is why it attracts more and more attention.

The Verve
Love is noise
The ‘Love is Noise’ single advert stands out really well because of the colour scheme used. The colour scheme which is used consists of neutral colours such as; whites, light browns, dark browns, oak browns, gold’s, and bache’s. The colours used are very earthy which gives the ‘love is Noise’ advert a very neutral feeling and effect. This effect which the creators of the advert create is very different to other single adverts because other adverts usually consist of bright colours. But this advert consists of very subtle and earthy colours with an image of clouds. The name of the single is ‘Love is Noise’ which could represent why the images of clouds are used; clouds represent love, and the earthy colours could represent love as love is natural just like the colours are. This ‘Love is Noise’ advert also has all of the relevant information near the bottom of the page which adds extra detail to the advert and blends in really well with the earthy colours and the image used. The information near the bottom of the advert includes; download of the single is out now, CD and vinyl of single is out on Monday, which exclusive song is included on vinyl, the website of the band, and the logo of the band. As the advert consists of neutral colours such as; whites, light browns, dark browns, oak browns, gold’s, and bache’s; the text font for the information near the bottom of the advert is a white coloured smart subtle font. This coloured font blends in really well with the image used and also the colour scheme used. This is part of the reason why the advert is so easy on the eye and why the advert is so effective.
The target audience for this album would be people in an age group ranging from sixteen year olds to people in their late thirty’s. The age group is such a wide range because ‘The Verve’ have been around for many years dating back from 1990’s. As ‘The Verve’ have been around for so many years, they have collected a lot of fans which is why the band themselves are so successful. The target audience would also include people who listen to bands such as ‘The Verve’, ‘Coldplay’, and ‘Oasis’. The band have been of and on since the start of their career but they started their career in 1990 – 1995, then 1997 – 1999, and then2007 – 2009. This is mostly because of the subtle image and the earthy colour scheme which has been chosen to make up the advert.

Santogold
Lights out
The ‘Lights Out’ single advert stands out really well because of the colour scheme used. The colour scheme which is used consists of greens, browns, whites, and bache’s. The colours used are very subtle colours which blend in really together, and the colours are why the advert stands out as well as it does. The image used on this advert consists of two images of the artist; Santogold. This effect gives the advert a real creative touch because the leaves used at the top and bottom of the advert also cover the eyes of the artist. This effect links in the images really well together and this is why the colours and the images blend in extremely well together. This ‘Lights Out’ advert also has all of the relevant information located near the bottom of the advert which is the average place for all of the information. The information used on the advert is created with a very stylish font which adds that extra detail to the advert and makes the advert stand out even more. The relevant information on the advert includes: which artist the new single is from, when the single is able to be downloaded, when the CD is in stores, a Myspace address for the artist, and the logo of the artist. The font style used to create the title of the artist and the tilt e of the song is a very wild font, but blends in really well with the actual advert as the advert is also very wild. This extra detail makes the advert stand out even more than it already does. This is part of the reason why the advert is so creative and effective.
The target audience for this Single would be people in an age group ranging from fifteen year olds to people in their mid twenty’s. The reason behind this age group stretching ten years, is that Santogold started her solo career in 2003. She then released her debut album Santogold in 2008 and has ever since been a singer and song writer to watch out for. As Santogold has been around since 2003, she has collected an awful amount of fans which is why she is such a successful music artist. The target audience would also include people who listen to artists and bands such as Santogold and ‘The Artic Monkeys’. The target audience is targeted through the creativity of the ‘Lights Out’ advert as the advert is rather unusual compared to other artists adverts and indie bands adverts but at the same time very effective. This is mostly because of the design because the green coloured leaves used at the top and bottom of the advert, are also used to cover the eyes of the artist. This effect gives the advert extra detail which makes the advert look really effective and stylish.

Late of the pier
Heartbeat
The ‘Heartbeat’ single advert stands out really well because of the gentle colour scheme used. The colour scheme which is used consists of gentle and vibrant colours such as; reds, oranges, yellows, pinks, blues, turquoises, greens, blacks, and browns. The colours which are used are very vibrant, gentle but at the same time very subtle colours which gives the advert a very neutral feeling and effect. This effect which is created by the colour scheme is very different to other single adverts; this is because other single adverts usually consist of bright colours which are meant to make the advert stand out really well. But in this case, the ‘Heartbeat’ advert doesn’t need extremely bright colours in order for it to stand out; the advert consists of subtle, gentle and vibrant colours which is why the advert is so effective and stands out really well. This advert also consists of an image of a collage of various subtle, gentle and vibrant colours. The collage also contains a logo within the middle of the collage which is the official logo for the band; Late of the pier. The title of the single is ‘Heartbeat’ which could represent why the image has a collage of vibrant but subtle colours; this is because the colours could link in with the heartbeat. This ‘Heartbeat’ single advert also contains all of the relevant information near the bottom half of the advert which adds extra detail and blends in really well with the collage of colours, and the background colour used. The information near the bottom of the advert includes; download of the single is available now, which remixes are available, which album the single is taken from and which date the album is released, a review of the single from NME, website address, MySpace address, and the logo of the band. As the advert consists of neutral, subtle and vibrant colours such as; reds, oranges, yellows, pinks, blues, turquoises, greens, blacks, and browns; the text font for the title of the band, single and the relevant information at the bottom of the advert is a white coloured smart subtle font. This colour stands out really well above the colour scheme and the image used. This is one of the main reasons why the advert is so easy on the eye and why the advert is so effective.
The target audience for this single would be people in an age group ranging from fifteen years olds to twenty five year olds. The target audience would also include people who listen to bands such as ‘Late of the pier’ and ‘The Script’. The target audience is targeted through the creativity of the ‘Late of the pier’ advert as the advert is rather different to other band single adverts. This is mostly because of the subtle but vibrant collage of colours and the vibrant but gentle colour scheme which has been chosen to make up the advert.

Noah and the Whale
Peaceful the world lays me down
The ‘Peaceful the world lays me down’ album advert stands out really well because of the bold title, the image which takes up most of the advert, and the colour scheme used. The colour scheme which is used consists highly of dark colours such as greys and blacks, and also contains bright colours such as yellows, oranges, whites, greens, and pinks. The colours used create a really good contrast in colours which is why the advert looks really effective. If the advert contained just bright colours or even just dark colours, then the advert would look incredibly dull and boring; but as this advert contains both bright and dark colours then the advert cerates a really good contrast of colours. The effect which is created by the colour scheme of both bright and dark colours is very different to other album adverts; this is because other album adverts usually consist highly of bright colours which are meant to make the advert stand out really well. This album advert stands out really well because the colour scheme consists both of bright and ark colours, which means that the advert doesn’t need to consist highly of bright colours in order for the advert to stand out really well. This advert also contains a massive image of the band members which takes over half of the advert. The image is of the band members within ‘Noah an the Whale’, and it shows all of the band members posing to the camera with an umbrella. The image itself is quite a dark image but one of the band members has a bright yellow tie, another has a bright yellow scarf and another is holding a bright yellow umbrella. This contrast of colours within the advert makes the advert itself stand out really well and makes it look really effective. The title of the band is shown as a really smart and cool looking orange font which makes the advert look really effective. The font of the title is really easy on the eye but at the same time makes the advert stand out really well. This ‘Peaceful the world lays me down’ album advert also contains all of the relevant information on the left hand side of the advert which adds extra detail to the advert. The information on the left hand side of the advert includes; which date the album will be released, which top songs are included on the album, a review of the album from NME and Q magazine, which music store the band will be performing live at, what date they will be performing live, and a Zavvi logo.
The target audience for this ‘Noah and the whale’ album would be people in an age group ranging from fifteen year olds to twenty three year olds. The age group is such a wide age range because ‘Noah and the Whale’ have been in the music spotlight since 2006 which means that they have been around for about three years. As ‘Noah and the whale’ have been around for three years, they have collected a lot of fans which is why the band themselves are so successful.
